My Experience

My Experience - I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis when I was 17 (in 2007) and have tried all the conventional methods of trying to control my symptoms. I had a Thymectomy in 2008, and have since had Plasma Exchange treatment, two lots of IvIg treatment and two lots of steroid pulse treatment. Unfortunately I don't seem to react very well to these treatments (although I am aware that they can be great for some people). I have also been on a constant dose of Steroids and Immune-suppressants, with Mestinon to help give me a boost when needed, during this time to try and control my symptoms, however I tend to need high doses to make a difference. I am not dismissing the current medical options available to MG sufferers as I believe that they can help some people a great deal, however I am going to try this nutrition route to see if it can help support the conventional medicines and hopefully improve my condition.

My symptoms - I have decided to post a series of video links that I have done to demonstrate how my condition impacts me and how it can fluctuate. Myasthenia Gravis can be quite difficult to explain as the symptoms are cyclical and can be OK one day and bad the next. Many people find that different things trigger their symptoms, this can be fatigue, temperature changes, stress levels and many other factors.

01/01/2014 - This video shows how the symptoms of Myasthenia Gravis affect me. I was diagnosed with MG when I was 17 years old and have been trying to manage my symptoms in various ways since then. I am now 23 years old and have recently seen a relapse in my symptoms hence why I have decided to create this video to show how it impacts me. It shows them at their worst, which impacts my ability to speak and move my facial muscles. It also makes me sound upset and have a nasal voice as a result of weakness in my soft pallet and other facial muscles. The reason I am posting this is to help raise awareness about the condition as it is often difficult to describe to people who have not come across it before.

05/01/2014 - This video shows me when my symptoms are not too bad. It is a good thing to compare the two videos so that you can see how Myasthenia Gravis impacts me as it can often be difficult to explain!
